The US president has honoured America’s veterans, on the same day that he met with his national security team to discuss whether to send more troops to the war in Afghanistan. Jonathan Bartlett is one of the soldiers Obama was honouring on Veterans Day. Bartlett wanted to go to Afghanistan after the September 11th attacks. Instead he was sent to Iraq – and two months later lost both of his legs in a bomb attack on his army truck. In his own words, Bartlett talks about the moment that changed his life, his views on war and his thoughts about the US president who sent him into battle.

Disable Veteran in need of help?
Hello,
I will be straight to the point because its what everyone likes. I am a partially disable U.S. Army Veteran
(recently rated only 30% by the VA) and my disability check from the VA does not even begin to cover all of the living expenses that come with not having a barracks room to go to or a mess hall to eat at when money isnt exactly growing on trees for you. I dont have any contact with my immediate family AT ALL part of the reason I joined. Now that I am discharged I am learning to live as a civilian young adult and things are pretty tight because I don't have any money and can only afford to work a part time job and except minimum wage because I am also a full time student. Its just…… really hard……… adjusting to this new life outside of the army being disabled. Any financial assistance would be A HUGE BLESSING and would greatly ease my depression so that I can function in class not worrying how Im going to pay my rent or eat. God is so incrediably good to me and I know He will make a way. Thank you for your help! and just for simply reading this letter.
If you all need proof that I am a veteran I would be more than gleeful to send you a copy of my DD214, copy of my VA Hospital I.D. card, and my disability rating papers from the VA.

If anyone would like to help my address is

Thank you for your support
